The Cypress Group of the Sierra Club will open its 2022-23 program year with its first face-to-face program in more than two years at 7 p.m. on Monday at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation, 131 Oakmont Drive. Liz Kalies, director of science for the N.C. Chapter of the Nature Conservancy, will discuss “Making Solar Farms Wildlife Friendly.” The program will also be available over Zoom. School safety will be the focus of the Greenville Police Community Relations Committee at 6 p.m. on Tuesday in the Council Chambers at City Hall, 200 W. Fifth St. The meeting will cover police rapid response tactics; “run, hide, fight;” school resource officers; preparing children at home for school violence; and “See something, hear something, say something.” Speakers will include Chief Ted Sauls, Superintendent Ethan Lenker, SRO supervisor Lt. Mike Montanye and Karen Harrington, director of student services with Pitt County Schools.

The Pitt Partners for Health Mental Health Action Team is looking for businesses and organizations in Pitt County that will display messages of hope and inspiration on their marquee between Sept. 11-17 in celebration of National Positivity Day. The Humane Society of Eastern Carolina will hold its Fluff and Puff Dog Wash fundraiser and an animal adoption event from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sept. 17 at Capital Subaru of Greenville, 399 S. Memorial Drive. The event will include music by Tiffany Elaine and Brandy’s Food Truck and door prizes. Dogs must have proof of rabies vaccination to be washed.

USA Dance will hold its monthly ballroom dance event on Sept. 17 at the Historic Turnage theatre in dowtown Washington, N.C. Debbie Tuttle will present a hustle lesson at 6:30. The dance party is 7-9. Cost is $10 per person
